This War reminds me of my grandparents who were living in North Korea when the communists invaded. They kidnapped grandfather, and my mother’s family never saw him again.
Grandmother escaped by boat at midnight with 6 young children. The oldest was about 9. Before she left, my mother’s mother remembered to take the new SINGER SEWING machine with her.
My grandfather was a successful entrepreneur before the communists attacked. He purchased her the most advanced sewing machine available at the time. He owned 10 Nissan trucks for his salt mining business.
Well, she was not only VERY COURAGEOUS TO DECIDE to leave by boat, which could have sank on the long journey south, but she LAUNCHED HER FIRST BUSINESS during the war.
This is how she fed and supported her SIX KIDS alone. She clothed her entire village before the mass production of clothes. She had excellent sewing skills. She didn’t need paper and pen to calculate the measurements. Everybody respected her.
After the war, she opened her wedding boutique eventually, becoming Korea’s first fashion designer.
She saved her money from the biz to buy a pharmacy. She supported all six entirely, never remarrying, including paying for the UNIVERSITY TUITIONS FOR 5 of 6 to the best university in Korea (Seoul National University).
She BECAME a fierce Christian business woman. She was a happy house wife BEFORE the invasion. Grandmother’s life story is about the NECESSITY OF HARDSHIP to become all that you can be!
She surprised herself!!!
She had an INNOVATIVE MIND, and didn’t hesitate WORKING DILIGENTLY TOWARDS HER DREAMS to support her childrens’ potential.
I still remember visiting her house at about 5, and looking into her big closets where her custom gowns were stored. She had incredible knitting skills too! She made intricately laced patterns on her custom sweaters. She made sequenced and beaded purses that matched the gowns.
She rode the train to meet the manufacturers of sequins and beads, as she became a distributor. She probably wouldn’t have done ANY of this if her husband were alive and her country wasn’t invaded. She had been wealthy so there was no need to work on a business.
Too much comfort discourages the development of talent and COURAGE.
EASE is the ENEMY of personal and professional development.
