Mastering self-trust can be the most empowering feeling and knowing anyone can experience.
This is a tough topic to navigate because we are aware of the past when we didn’t trust ourselves, and we faced the consequences. I’ve met many people who shared that they didn’t trust themselves. So, what does this mean?
Most people dance between two polarities – self-trust AND self-doubt. The more we become aware of our emotional states and thoughts as they arise, we can make better decisions that are in alignment with our wishes and values.
As a recent example, I generally distrust people who are pushy and assertive because I sense that they have an agenda of their own. I trust my ability to read people’s energy because I’ve evolved to the point where I can sense their being in totality. I don’t focus on their words per se, I trust my intuition to sense whether someone is a person who is good for my well-being or not. I don’t need an explanation for my intuition.
As another example, I trust my intelligence to make accurate assessments when necessary and after sufficient evaluation. This is probably based on thousands of times that I’ve relied on my intelligence to figure things out, and I’ve been able to succeed in arriving at logical conclusions. I have made independent decisions on my own, and I feel pretty confident in my ability to make keen discernments. This is based on decades of experience.
It’s also OK that I don’t know everything. No one can know everything. However, I trust my analytical abilities and emotional intelligence to figure things out so I’m not that worried that I might not know something at that moment.
This leads to self-confidence, which overlaps with self-trust because having self-confidence to “figure things out” (especially things that I’ve never done before) is like having access to most opportunities because you know that you can trust yourself to figure things out. This includes the ability to hire the people who can do the specialized work that you can’t do or don’t want to do.
Self-trust also includes an integrity component that you can follow through on the things that you’ve made into a priority. This leads to higher self-esteem because you can trust that you can follow through.
I learned something useful recently by watching the Project Runway series where fashion designers compete for the chance at a million dollars and other opportunities to develop their fashion brands under mentorship. The show gets really interesting towards the end of the series when the top 2-3 most talented designers are left after eliminating the other candidates. It’s truly inspiring to watch how these top designer candidates are able to perform through very challenging schedules. Create an entire line in 4 days?
You can see them experiencing enormous pressure, struggle with self-doubts, struggle making design choices, and struggle to define their vision so that they can create something original and fresh. I’ve been pleasantly surprised that under extreme pressure, some candidates are able to deliver BEYOND what they were able to demonstrate in previous design competitions leading up to the final runway show. This proves that some are able to use the time pressure and opportunity pressure to truly innovate something exciting and fresh for the judges. Many times I’ve watched the judges being pleasantly surprised to see the emergence of something fresh from a candidate, whom they didn’t have such expectations.
No one is in a position to judge what another can do or not do. This is why life is so exciting, and why souls return to experience the joy of manifestations!
